How much space does it take to swing a cat?

If you’ve ever booked a “content studio” in London and found yourself shooting between a filing cabinet and a radiator, you’re not alone.

We’ve seen it all — podcast "booths" the size of a phone box, video studios where you can either frame the shot or fit the lighting, but not both, and multi-camera setups where the only thing multi about it is the number of extension cords under your feet.

At Blueprint Studios London, we took a different approach: give creators and brands room to actually create. And yes, we even ran the numbers (with some feline-based physics) to prove it.

The Cat-Swinging Equation (Bear With Us)

There’s an old British phrase used to describe cramped spaces:

“You can’t swing a cat in here.”

While we don’t endorse testing this in practice, the phrase got us thinking: how much space should a studio really have?

Let’s break it down:

  • Swing radius: 1.5 metres

  • Crew clearance: 1 metre

  • Tripod & cable footprint: 2 metres

  • Emotional breathing room: priceless

That gives you a working minimum of 20–25 square metres just to shoot without tripping over gear, your guests, or your dignity.

Most content studios don’t offer that. Ours does.

Why space isn’t just “Nice to Have”, it’s essential

In the world of content production, space = flexibility. Whether you're recording a vodcast, filming branded content, or livestreaming, here’s why it matters:

  • Multi-camera setups that don’t involve acrobatics

  • Lighting freedom, not lighting compromises

  • Better mic placement = better audio

  • A calm, professional atmosphere = better performance

What you’ll find at Blueprint Studios (other than swing room)

At our Fulham HQ, Blueprint Studios London is built with space in mind:

  • Five standing, pre-lit studio sets

  • Dedicated technical gallery — no gear in the shot

  • Open-plan floors, high ceilings, and proper workflows

  • A green room and client lounge to recharge, review, and relax

In short: it’s a studio, not a shoebox.

Studios that cram? No thank you, Ma’am.

Some “studios” are about as roomy as an airline toilet. They may have decent kit, but when space gets tight, your creativity gets squeezed.

Your content deserves better.

If you have to duck, crouch, or shuffle, it’s not a studio

If you're squeezing behind a tripod to reach the mic, you’re not in a studio, you're in storage.

If you're looking for a spacious content studio in London, we’ve got room for you. And then some (dogs are permitted, but we haven’t had a cat visit yet).

Book a tour of Blueprint Studios London and discover why the space could be purrfect for you.
